ASSOCIATION

Our actions

Buying a used American sports car

The purchase of our pediatric cancer awareness tool is a first and major step for the association, we will choose a highly recognizable used American sports car, the model will depend on the funds collected.

Excursions and discovery rides

The main action of the association is to share all year long with children and their companion a unique moment for unforgettable memories around our American sports car on the French Atlantic coast.

Gifts from the world of Route 66

During these meetings with children, the association offers goodies related to the American Route 66 universe, purchased or received from partners and private donors. Miniatures, caps, keychains, stickers, etc.

Organization of special meetings

Once our action established and recognized, another longer term goal of the association is to organize magical moments between children and their idols, whether from the artistic, sports, or other worlds.

INFORMATION

What is pediatric cancer?

Pediatric cancer is a disease that, although rare compared to adult cancers, has a significant impact on children and adolescents. It is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in this age group. The most common types of pediatric cancers include leukemias, which are cancers of the blood and marrow, brain tumors, lymphomas, which affect the lymphatic system, and neuroblastomas, which develop from immature nerve cells.

Early diagnosis is crucial for improving the chances of recovery. Symptoms can vary depending on the type of cancer but often include unexplained pain, weight loss, persistent fevers, unusual bruising or bleeding, and changes in the child's behavior or energy levels. These symptoms can be subtle and easily mistaken for other childhood illnesses, making early diagnosis a challenge.

The treatment of pediatric cancer is often complex and may include a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Surgery can be used to remove tumors, while chemotherapy and radiation therapy aim to destroy any remaining cancer cells. Advances in research have improved survival rates, but these treatments can have long-term side effects, such as growth problems, cognitive impairments, and an increased risk of developing other cancers later in life. This necessitates ongoing medical follow-up to manage these side effects and monitor the child's overall health.

Psychological and emotional support is also essential for children with cancer and their families. Coping with a cancer diagnosis can be extremely stressful and emotionally challenging. Many organizations offer resources and support to help manage the challenges posed by the disease, including support groups, counseling services, and therapeutic recreational programs.

Ongoing research is essential to better understand the causes of pediatric cancer and to develop new, more effective, and less toxic treatments. Researchers are exploring new approaches, such as targeted therapies and immunotherapy, which aim to specifically attack cancer cells while sparing healthy cells. These advances hold the promise of further improving outcomes for children with cancer and reducing the long-term side effects of treatments.

In summary, while pediatric cancer is a formidable disease, advances in diagnosis, treatment, and support offer hope to children and their families. Continued collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and support organizations is crucial to improving outcomes and quality of life for young cancer patients.
